What Makes Avalon Unique synthroid? (Doesn't everyone use Microarrays?)

  Process Simplification: All steps in hit discovery, characterization and lead optimization are focused on gene expression readouts. Avalon Proprietary Know-How is key to quality, optimal data analysis and low cost
  Process Integration: The seamless integration of optimized technologies and bioinformatics is key to selection and development of novel compounds - Avalon's METS database provides insight from analysis of many gene expression data points per experiment against other reference and experimental compounds in multiple assay cells.
  Scale: Avalon can screen large chemical libraries (e.g. 100,000 compounds) in a manner where it is economically competitive with traditional HTS - we can easily screen 800 microarrays / week
  Speed: Avalon can go from a request to initiation of a screen within 4- 6 weeks - the only changes in our platform are the choice of cell lines and gene expression signatures; there is no bottleneck in assay development and scaleup


How do we differ from traditional drug discovery?

  Every experiment provides multi-dimensional data - not just on potency but on specificity, mechanism, etc.

  The ability to differentiate analogs based on specificity with no additional experimentation allows increased speed and risk diversification (ability to follow compounds from different classes)

  Avalon's drug discovery programs automatically generate information on relevant efficacy biomarkers. This can increase our understanding of drug activity to the point where we may be able to predict in vivo efficacy from in vitro experiments and to stratify patients for clinical trials
In addition to Avalon's programs for drug discovery, drug characterization and biomarker discovery / validation, Avalon's Molecular Cytogenetics program identifies novel oncogenes. Chromosomal changes, especially genomic DNA amplification, are selected and maintained by cancer cells as they provide an advantage over the normal genomic state. From this perspective, oncogenic targets are high-value targets that have been validated within the context of human disease. Based on this program, Avalon has identified new intracellular and cell surface targets for drug discovery either by itself or by its partners.
