Beta-catenin Pathway Inhibitor

Diagram of Beta-Catenin Pathway

Several proteins within the Beta-catenin pathway play key roles in the initiation and progression of cancer. It has been estimated that the Beta-catenin pathway is abnormally activated in more than 85% of colon cancers. Using AvalonRx®, we have identified structurally distinct chemical compounds that appear to affect the Beta-catenin pathway. In June of 2008, Avalon announced the nomination of AVN316 as a preclinical development candidate. The novel compound inhibits the Beta-catenin pathway and is a potent inducer of cell cycle arrest and apoptosis.
